The cities primary source of water is obtained from the Big Canyon Reservoir in conjunction with several wells through out the city. Prior to putting the water into distribution two disinfectant chemicals are injected into a 42” water main. Since the 42” main branches after the proposed injection location and the flow to each branch is not predictable the City wanted a way to ensure that the chemicals were completely mixed upstream of the branch. Due to the limited space in the control room an existing 42″ flowmeter and 42″ butterfly was removed to make room for a new static, turbomixer, 316SS knife gate valve. These upgrades would provide more uniform chemcial mixing upstream of the branch. In addition to the control room modifications; a new 8 ton bridge crane was installed inside the existing building to replace an aged manual crane. A second major component of the project required the installation of a new 30″ flowmeter in a 30′ deep flowmeter vault.
