City of Pomona- Design & Construct AEP-3

The City of Pomona obtains most of their potable water from underground wells. Like most underground water sources they are contaminated and must be treated before being distributed. Some of the contaminants included perchlorate and nitrates. The city has used their anion exchange plant (AEP) to removed these contaminants which is feed by fifteen wells. However, new programs such Dry Year Yield Program (DYY) ordered for a decrease in amount of water bought from Metropolitan Water District (MWD). In addition, new state Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCL) forced some of wells to become inoperable due to their high level of perchlorate. The City of Pomona needed to increase the volume that could be treated for perchlorate at the current AEP site. Now, with the installation of the new AEP-3 site, the city is able to increase production from ALL fifteen wells to produce 2/3 of the cities total potable water production. The AEP-3 project included the installation of twelve new perchlorate removal tanks; three booster pumps; underground cement mortared and lined piping ranging from 36″-16″. As an addition to the existing AEP-1 site, two new bag filters and pumps were installed to prime the water before it was passed and treated through the new AEP-3 tanks.
